Bob Considine of the New Jersey Business & Industry Association was kind enough to devote a whole segment of this week’s “Minding Your Business” show to what’s happening with independent-contractor policy in our home state, as well as to a discussion about my new “Extremism vs. Entrepreneurism” report that details why we need a more reasonable, moderate approach.
We discuss a number of things on this episode, including:
The overwhelming 99% public opposition to New Jersey’s currently proposed independent-contractor rule
The fact that some of the research and source material being used to push the proposed rule is highly questionable
The way that overly restrictive independent-contractor policy disproportionately and negatively affects women, based on results that have already been documented in California and New Jersey alike
What New Jersey’s public comments suggest is really going on in the construction industry (the big problem doesn’t actually appear to be employee misclassification)
My 2025 testimony before the U.S. Senate about the need for our government to protect independent contractors everywhere from regulatory language that is being weaponized to harm us
