Stop voting Democrat. They have enabled and encouraged these policies that are destroying freelancing. They have also enabled and encouraged the DSA, which is now destroying the party from within.
There are absolutely Republicans flirting with some of this madness (just last month, I wrote about Vice President Vance), but they are a minority faction in that party. The majority of the anti-IC legislation and regulations right now are indeed coming from the Democrats
The insanity continues. Add that Mamdani is anti-Semitic (it's generational in his family), he's a complete nightmare. He can't tell the difference between Zionism and Judaism -- or chooses to conflate them. To combat these years of attack, I've decided to learn a skill that I hope will be safer from the DSA than freelance editorial work, if such a thing exists: working one-on-one teaching clients Face Yoga (yes, it's a thing). It's my other ship in the storm, should editorial freelance work eventually be ripped away from me. Thank you, Kim, for all that you continue to do in this war on freelancers. And I'll continue to hope and pray my escape route will keep me safe from unionists and the DSA, should I be forced from editorial work by people who are living in the 1940s and 1950s. "Work only as much as you need to"? What if I LIKE working and do it more than I need? When did success become a four-letter word?
A way to combat gravity, facial habits/tics, and age to feel better (better circulation, increased lymphatic drainage, improved posture) and decrease wrinkles by helping overdeveloped face muscles relax (e.g., the "11" lines between the eyebrows, so someone always looks worried or angry) and underdeveloped muscles improve (i.e, any of the 3 [yes, 3] eyebrow muscles) for better symmetry. It happens by learning your own facial habits and reworking the muscles with nothing but your hands. Literally, yoga for the face. Some former students around the world are MDs using this on their stroke patients, and someone is working in Bollywood! Many former students are already yoga teachers or Pilates teachers looking to expand their businesses. My initial aim after certification in October is to use it with actors (acting studios, private classes?) and with older folks (libraries?). I just met a woman who offers private business coaching for C-Suite-level individuals, and we might work together! I'm not certified yet, but check out https://faceyogamethod.com/ if you want to learn about Face Yoga for yourself.
Between the DSA, unions, the Democrats, and AI, I felt I had to do something proactive in case my editorial business is flushed down the toilet one way or another. I was already doing Face Yoga (a bit) when the 2026 certification offer crossed my transom. Now? I'm completely sold on its benefits. It feels like a bit of a career raft, provided sectoral bargaining keeps its ugly head from becoming reality.

I have never heard of any of this. And I'm glad you found something that you love!
